Who is Frederic Robinson

That guy on the right…you know, that handsome devil in the photo…that’s me.Frederic-KernerCam

Hi, I’m Frederic.  I’m an actor, director, producer, shooter, editor and…hmmmm….I know there is something else….oh right….a serial entrepreneur.

My Story

After graduating from University with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies I took a year off to “find myself”.  It never happened. I was more lost than I thought.

Then, one brisk fall day, I believe it was a Tuesday, an introductory course on film and television showed up in my town.  I grew up in Gibsons, BC and loved watching the Beachcombers being filmed so I decided to take the introductory course.  I’ve never looked back.  Well, that’s not completely true.  If I’d truly known, or believed, how hard it would be to make it in this industry I might have considered becoming a dentist (hey, it was offered to me at one point…Visualize me hitting my head against a wall… “I’m so stupid stupid stupid”) but I digress….

The fact is despite the hardships of going after a career in film and Television I have had some of the most AMAZING experiences that I wouldn’t take back.  I have acted in films, commercials, PSA’s and I have directed and/or edited TV Pilots, TV Shows, Films, Movie Trailers, Music Videos, Corporate Videos and much much more.

For example, I have produced and co-starred in a film with Cory Monteith of the ‘Glee’ fame.  I have directed, shot and edited 25 episodes of a Home Design show, I worked on a website that was in direct competition with Facebook.  Guess which one made it?,  I have worked with the guy who invented and built the empire cam from Star Wars, I have directed and edited an award winning 10 music video DVD for 3 time Juno nominated kids band ‘The Kerplunks”,  I have won best actor in a short film, I have produced a cook book, written the forward to a book on twitter and just recently edited the final version of director Jonathan Holiff’s documentary on Johnny Cash called ‘My Father and The Man in Black’.  I can even be found on IMDB!  Point is I love what I do and don’t want to ever give it up.

So why the Pro Video Advisor Blog?

Simple.  We all need a little help now and again to get on the right track to taking, capturing, editing and producing better videos.

With this blog I want to help you get the most out of your videos whether you own an iPhone, android, DSLR or any other type of video recording device.  With such a wide range of experience spanning the gamut from Production Assistant to Director to editor to Actor, I have a great deal of knowledge about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to producing great quality videos.

Furthermore, I have been asked on multiple occasions if I would host a seminar to explain the basics of shooting video.  However, I thought it would be more effective, and a lot more fun, if I created a blog where I could show you everything you need to know about shooting video on a shoestring budget.  Whether you want to learn about cameras, composition, editing, exporting, lenses or even get to know the cheapest way to make great videos you will find the information here.

And the thing is, often there are just simple things you can do to make a huge difference to the videos you create and who doesn’t want to make better videos?

Recently Kodak was quoted in saying “They’ve never seen so many high quality photos taken so badly” Let’s change that opinion and have some fun creating some great quality photos and video with whatever camera you’ve got!  If you’re excited, I’m excited…so let’s get to it!  Please subscribe to my blog so you’ll be notified each time I post something new.

One last thing….

In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t take myself too seriously and I don’t want this blog to feel that way either.  We have one life to live, so let’s live it….and hopefully you will learn something in the process! :)
